Why We Love Emotives

VERN AI will soon tell you what emotion has been detected, how intense it is, and what kind of emotional signal was flagged.

We’ve been tracking them a long time, and they’ve been a part of what makes our model unique. Now, in order to be more explainable and therefore reliable we’re going to include this analysis with the VERN emotion scores you already receive.

Emotives are what make emotions

They’re called Emotives, and they make up Anger, Sadness, Fear and Love/Joy.  Why “emotives?”

Emotive as a singular is defined as “arousing or able to arouse intense feeling.” Emotives as a collective do exactly that, for each emotional state they represent. (It’s a new emotion model, and requires new labels).

They can also be applied to behavioral frameworks to extrapolate additional insights.

Here’s an example:

“The greatest fear dogs know is the fear that you will not come back when you go out the door without them.”

Sentiment analysis: NEGATIVE.

Yep. Already knew that, thanks.

To VERN, it’s a solid fear signal at 51%, with a fear disclosure, an unpleasant surprise, and a possible phobia.

That’s something you can address, take action on. Even automate an answer for it, accurately so you aren’t pandering and not robotic.

Here’s another:

“If we can’t provide the basics for our people, then you can kiss your recovery goodbye.”

It’s negative, alright. But there’s more too it, isn’t there?

For VERN, it’s a high sadness signal at 80% as it illustrates a self fulfilling prophecy  and defeat & despair. Interestingly, it also carries a corresponding high Love/Joy signal, which could be interpreted as caring.

A lot more analysis for the money

That’s certainly a lot more information, more nuanced, and more valuable about the interaction with the speaker!

If I were to review this as merely negative, I may have dismissed the speaker. But looking closer, I can see that this person cares a lot. Enough to get personally involved. Someone who would be more of an ally, instead of merely labeled as “negative” and summarily dismissed.

These “Emotives” are components that make up emotions as a whole. We have been telling you it’s Anger. And how intense that Anger is. Now, we can tell you if that Anger also included a Threat. And, if that Threat also included Dehumanization.

All real time, out of the box…
